Pending Burnout

Hey All -

Just to let you know, just as my close friend Alaug has burned out, so have I. I cannot bring myself to write more "Redemption" at this point. Chapter 10 has languished for more than a month with no more than a few paragraphs completed.

I have another story in mind, but it does not have the Immortal Couple in it. All I can share at the moment is that it will be a post-apocalyptic tome, set in the near future and there will be humans and others.

It will be a while before you see this new story, whose working title is "Scribe". I hope you all understand that just like my friend, I can't seem to write that story anymore. I have hit not just a wall, but the side of a very tall cliff.

I'm not gone, just on hiatus.

Something To Ponder

Okay, so I received this email and felt obligated to share it with my 'net friends.

RE: kellanmeigh.com

Please forgive the interruption. One of the members of my staff found your site, and I think it may be a good match for Sosbuzz. Sosbuzz is a moderated marketplace search engine where members look for products and services. We're experiencing exponential growth in traffic, and our members may be interested in your offering. Just a bit about us (you can read more on our site below). We're the search engine that filed the patent for the Pay-After-Confirmed-Sale model, which eliminates the entire risk in advertising, as it costs businesses nothing up-front to advertise their products and services, and get the traffic they need. In our model, businesses, even service-based businesses, get to advertise at no charge until AFTER we get them a confirmed sale. Additionally, when our members make a purchase from a seller on Sosbuzz, we donate 25% of our proceeds to the Causes that our members select. This patent-pending invoicing and search model has already started to turn traditional search advertising on its head, as it benefits all parties concerned.

so, I will now post my reply.

(post)

Mr. Sosikian,

After having received your email concerning your business, I read it closely a few times before I decided to reply.

I am flattered that one of your staff had seen fit to bring my website to your attention. I will admit that Sosbuzz might actually drive traffic to my website, but . . .

As you might surmise by actually surfing my website, I do not sell a thing. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I'm not sure what your staffer saw in my site but I can tell you, it wasn't products or services for sale. I would almost suspect this person of just going to a site, maybe a bulletin board or forum and copying the links from that site to submit to you. I would doubly-so suspect that if that person worked for an SEO organization at some time.

So, being listed on Sosbuzz would actually be a waste of time for the both of us. I have nothing to sell, therefore my listing would be a dead end for you. In the meantime, your site would look bad for listing a site that obviously does not sell anything on the 'net.

I suggest you talk with the individual that suggested my site and explain to them, a site needs to sell a product or service to be of any use to your company. As far as I'm concerned that individual will cost you time and money that could be better spent elsewhere. If it were my business, I would be sending that person down the road with their last check right about now.

I own several other sites that do not sell products or services so I will be interested to see if you make the same offer to those 'webmasters'.

Good day,

Kellan

(/post)

As you can see, Mr. Sosikian probably gleaned my website from my posts on a forum. It's very obvious that he (or his alleged staffer) never visited my site. Not surprising, probably an SEO taking things to a new level.

I get the offers all the time for 'reciprocal links' where th person puts your links on a page that is not found on the website's main page, but expecting you to put their link front and center. I think this guy is just a better version of the same scam.

Hope you all got a good giggle from this.

What's Up With This?

Sorry about the rant but this is just something I have to do to get this off my chest.

A forum that I haunt(?), uses Cloudflare , a proxy server of sorts that supposedly protects your website and speeds up performance. Now just to clarify, i do not own, admin nor mod the board in question.

What I am fed up with is the various "Error Pages" that I see when trying to access that board. At least twice a week, I am greeted with the classic "Go Away, Not Available, Come Back Later" page. Generally that means give it up for the evening because the site isn't coming back until tomorrow. Doesn't look like Cloudflare improves things if you ask me. If anything, access to that board is worse now that Cloudflare is being used.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. It just makes it so hard to communicate with the folks that are reading my stories.

Redemption Chapter 05 and a health update

Well, here it is

"Redemption" chapter 05

It's not the best chapter I have ever hacked out but I think it serves well for the needed story progression.

Enjoy!

By the way, I've been diagnosed with an 8 millimeter kidney stone that will have to be broken up to be able to pass it out of my system. This one's too large to pass by itself, according to the doctor that treated me in the emergency room last Friday night. The problem is, I don't know if I can work with this, since I need to take pain meds (oxycodone) every 4 hours. Well, I'll try going to work tomorrow and see how it works out. I won't be seen by the Urologist until the first of February. I know, insane, isn't it?

Not Having Fun

The last few days were not fun.

First, I had a problem with my laptop, losing four days worth of work. Missed a backup, had a 'hiccup' and ended up having to re-build my 'puter. I had discovered another issue during all of this. After finding out some e-mail never made its destination, I figured out Threatfire was blocking all outbound email with attachments.

Yesterday proved to be the culmination.

Spent the day in the hospital, being checked out to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack. Did the enzyme test, the treadmill stress test only to be told the old ticker is okay. Apparently a pinched nerve in my shoulder triggered a muscle spasm in my chest, scaring the hell out of me.

Going back to work this morning, still kind of sore from my ordeal. I have a nasty headache, my shoulder is still achy and I have a headache.

It's going to be a long day.

Hopefully I can get back to proofing some stories this evening.

Chapter 17 of "End Game"

Well, here it is, in all of its glory; Chapter 17 of "End Game"

My one remaining proofreader has had some sort of a setback in RL, so this had not been past him for scrutiny. In all honesty, I cannot ask him for help at this time. It would seem that it should be me that is asking how I can help him out.

If you read this, my friend, contact me if you need an ear to bend or a shoulder to lean on.

I hope y'all enjoy this chapter, since the showdown that many of you have anticipated, finally happens.

Writer's Block

Well, it's official; I have writer's block.

I have put forth maybe two paragraphs tops in the last two weeks.

I attribute this to my current health status. I have been suffering with asthma for the last three weeks and it's not getting any better. I have been in contact with my doctor but he seems to think I need to undergo another Cardio-Cath procedure to rule out heart problems. As you can tell, I'm not wild about that. It's a life threatening procedure that i would rather not deal with. Besides still being sore where the last one was done almost three years ago.

Oh Well . . .

Sunday's Musings

Chapter 16 of "End Game" has been sent to my proofers so hopefully they will send back enough to be posted. Chapters 16 and 17 will tie "End Game" and "Defiance" together solidly, leaving no doubt as to where the two stories began and ended.

"End Game" will not stop there, however. There is still one more romp before it's over. I.E., the tigress has not sung yet.

On another note, I've been working on a HP pavilion a847c desktop computer that was given to a friend. It had the drive wiped on it so it was bare (no OS) when he received it.

I started to load Win XP pro on it and I started to run into problems. First was the problem that the installer couldn't write to the hdd. Took the drive (Maxtor 160Gb SATA), diagnosed it as bad and replaced it with a WD 320Gb SATA.

Another attempt at installation found a stick of RAM bad. Funny layout, too. 256 meg stick in Dimm 0, 1 gb in Dimm 1, 256 meg in Dimm 3. That 1 gb stick was bad, so we used the remaining two sticks to get it up and running.

Initial install went smoothly, then we attempted to install drivers. Now the fun began. It seems the hdd was set as I:\ not C:\. The HP drivers would try to unpack to a non-existant C drive, then fail and abort. Numerous attempts to correct the drive letter issue failed so I dug into the system further. I subsequently found where some joker, not knowing to press the clip in to unplug a SATA drive, had pulled the plastic guide away from the pins on the MOBO for the SATA 1 position! FARK!!

Now I'm researching just how to fix this, since the friend in question is on disability and he has no money for buy a new computer. Maybe I can scavenge the connector from somewhere and cobble it onto the board. Oh Well . . .

Anyway, look for Chapter 16 of "End Game" soon.

Take care,

Kellan, the old warhorse

Just Checking In

Hey All!

Just checking in so you know the Old Warhorse is still alive and kicking.

Chapter 13 of "End Game" went off to my remaining two proofers and one of them has already returned the remains of that chapter. ;D

I'm playing around with a program that might be able to convert my stories to EPUB format for those who use an electronic book to read from. I'll not go into this further until I have done the conversion on a story and had a victim, I mean tester try it for errors.

Still trying to sell my truck with little success. I'm not giving up, though.

Take care and have a nice weekend,

Saturday's Tidbits

Well, I finally decided to post this. It's official now; our cat has cancer. And it's inoperable. And it's teminal.

The sad part is she's still her old self at this point, albeit a bit slower than before. Her eyes are still bright and sparkly and she still craves attention. I guess we'll just make sure she's comfortable and do the humane thing when it's time.

Now that I got that off my chest, you can see why I'm not very upbeat at the moment. I've been trying to write but I guess my depression over not being able to help the furry member of our family out is geting to me. Maybe I will get myself out of this funk soon, before it consumes me.

As a side note, have you ever received an email telling you that you have an e-card from Hallmark? Well, some person in our school district opened one of those emails, propogating a trojan of sorts. Before IT tried to put the brakes on it, the disaster had spread to 34 schools and hundreds of computers. Not good. They were still in clean-up mode two days later. Oh Well . . .

To SC; I hope the Sharks get their behinds in gear or they will miss another chance at the Stanley Cup.

Anyway, have a nice weekend,

Kellan, the old warhorse

Monday's Blog

Well, Monday morning here at Casa Del Meig'h is an uneasy one.

It seems the little furry feline member of the family, Baby, is soon to go to the vet's office. She's been under the weather lately and a trip Saturday turned up a mass in her abdomen. This morning she will have an ultrasound performed to determine what this mass is and if it is treatable. We really hope it is, both medically and financially.

This comes at a bad time for us, since we had some expenditures that we needed to take care of. Now all of that will have to go on the back burner while we take care of Baby's needs.

On a lighter note, Chapter 9 of "End Game" has went to my able proofers but they must have been busy this weekend. Oh well, I'll get that chapter up soon. I'm about 4+ pages into chapter 10 at the moment.

A few friends here in SoCal are having a get-together at the end of the month and I can't begin to tell you just how bummed out I am that we can't attend. I really wish we could have put the trip together. Maybe next time.

A Computer Cart!

Well, I'm typing this while sitting at a real computer cart! Yay!

I had been looking for a hutch or cart for some time now for my laptop and just by a conicidence, a co-worker gave me a cart, a chair and a set of speakers! The cart is of the type I was looking for and the chair was immediately claimed by my tigress.

It took a bit to fit it into our 820 Sq. Ft. of living space but it is nice to actually not hurt while typing! I think this was the best deal in a while.

Still working on chapter 4 while chapter 3 or "End Game" is still being edited/proofed.

Just Checking In

I thought I might check in just to prove I'm still around.

Went to work sick with a serious cold/cough this week so I'm very under the weather. Gah, it seems like I have been sick forever. At least I feel a little better today so maybe I'm on the mend.

I know where my friend SC will be tomorrow; watching the Canucks and the Yanks battle it out on the ice. I'm kind of torn by this, since there are many great American hockey players and a number of great Canadian players. At any rate, the Gold remains in North America regardless. I hope I can watch the game and I'm not nodding off like I have been doing today.

I was really hoping for some better weather this weekend because I really wanted to get some shots of my hometown of Niles. I wanted to capture the railroad station now that it has been moved back to downtown but it's raining off and on right now. Maybe tomorrow.

"End Game" apparently has gone over well with my proofers so I hope to get the next chapter done this weekend. That's if I can stay awake. Isn't if funny how cold medication makes you sleepy? Oh well ... 8)

Take care,

Further Confusion 2010 ... Comments on Saturday

So, here I am, 2200 hours at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, attending Further Confusion. We arrived on Friday and attended a few panels. I was tired so we gave up early and crashed out.

This morning we had breakfast with Teric and Xaqtly at CoCo's in Sunnyvale. This has been a tradition since FC2008 and we really enjoyed our meal but most importantly, their company.

Attended a few panels, gained a few tips about fur suit construction and made a trip through the Dealer's Den. That was interesting because Rule #34 was in effect. We had to cut off my tigress before she stopped to check out Bad Dragon's table. Just told her, "You don't want to check it out."

Had dinner at Johnny Rockets on First street, right by the Fairmont. The food was great but the $33 USD price tag before tip was steep.

We watched the performers show off their new suits for awards and then called it a night. My back is killing me from sitting in the chairs provided for the panels.

The Epilogue

Well, it had to happen some time. The Epilogue for "A Loss Of Rights" has been posted. As I had posted over on Planet Furry, my thanks goes out to those that have read the story and have stuck around with me as I churned out this senseless drivel I call writing. I hope that all of you will stay tuned for the next "Immortal Warriors" tome called "End Game."

I would also like to take a moment to thank Aslaug, Teric and SC for allowing me the use of their characters in my stories. What are friends for, anyway? Thanks all from the bottom of my heart.

Keep an eye peeled for the next story,
