What A Game!

Well, it's official: Canada grabbed the Gold Medal.

I watched most of the game and I have to comment; This was a very spirited game. And I'm proud at any rate because four of my Sharks were playing for the Canucks.

I feel sorry for the American team but let's face it; they were out-skated. 'Nuff said. Now back to writing.

Just Checking In

I thought I might check in just to prove I'm still around.

Went to work sick with a serious cold/cough this week so I'm very under the weather. Gah, it seems like I have been sick forever. At least I feel a little better today so maybe I'm on the mend.

I know where my friend SC will be tomorrow; watching the Canucks and the Yanks battle it out on the ice. I'm kind of torn by this, since there are many great American hockey players and a number of great Canadian players. At any rate, the Gold remains in North America regardless. I hope I can watch the game and I'm not nodding off like I have been doing today.

I was really hoping for some better weather this weekend because I really wanted to get some shots of my hometown of Niles. I wanted to capture the railroad station now that it has been moved back to downtown but it's raining off and on right now. Maybe tomorrow.

"End Game" apparently has gone over well with my proofers so I hope to get the next chapter done this weekend. That's if I can stay awake. Isn't if funny how cold medication makes you sleepy? Oh well ... 8)

Take care,

Saturday's Blog

I had made some plans to do some things today but I'm sick with a cold. Yay me.

I decided to try to salvage the day by posting Chapter 1 of "End Game"  for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!

A Comment About Commenting

It looks like the "Recent Comments" portion of my blog no longer works. I was warned this might happen so I'll have to design a workaround for the situation.

A little background; JS-Kit took over Haloscan only to discover the system (the software and the server hosting Haloscan) was failing. They decided to roll out Echo, a paid ($12 USD/yr) solution. We will have to see how it works out.

Still waiting to hear from one of my proofers before I post chapter 1 of "End Game". Maybe this weekend.

General News

I want to start by saying I'm rather disappointed ... it seems nobody may have read the last posting.

*looks down at post below this one*

Anyway, I'm having to swap over from Haloscan commenting system to Echo by JS-kit. If the site looks a bit wonky for a day or two, that's me adjusting the new code.

New Posting

The "End Game" Prologue has been posted.

For those of you that have been reading faithfully, this may not be much. For those just starting out with my stories, this may be of help to clear up some questions.

Have You Ever ...

Have you ever found things that didn't belong there?

I had to assist with some troubleshooting of a piece of equipment that was malfunctioning. The equipment in question is an older Rawland Telecenter communications head end unit. It has an issue when going off-hook to page. The unit 'feeds back' but not like you would think; it is a somewhat single pitched sound that disappears as you speak into a handset, then returns when you aren't speaking. Odd to say the least.

Once we tore into the beast, we found signs of an unwanted houseguest; droppings.

Sitting on the PCB's ...

Doing damage ...

First picture is Curtis, trying to clean the damage.

Second is some of the worst damage. Doesn't look good to either of us.

Some more damage. The affected area extends under the chip.

So, at the end of the day, score was critters 1, technicians 0. We're hoping Curtis' boss has a stash of spares hidden somewhere.

On the way to help Curtis, I took a moment to take a nice shot of Mission Peak in the sun. This proves it is green here at least part of the year.

Anyway, that's all for now. I need to do some laundry and some grocery shopping, since my tigress is still contagious. I'm hoping to get some pictures of historic Niles this weekend for your viewing pleasure.

Slainte M'hath!

A Few Pictures For You ...

I was looking through my Picasa albums and I thought I would share a few pictures with you.

An interesting shot (accidentally) taken out the side window of our Explorer on the way to Pleasanton.

Tueday's Update Part Deux

My tigress has chicken pox. It's official. Most likely contracted at Further Confusion.

Yay ...

On a brighter note, I thought I would share this photo with you.

Tuesday's Update

Okay ... Stupid things.

Went to work today, thinking about my tigress being home sick. I was chatting with the secretary, letting her know what was going on and my boss overhears our conversation. He immediately sends me home with orders that I can't go back to work without being cleared by my doctor! Yeah!!

So, a call to my sister confirms all of us kids had chicken pox. Knowing that, my doctor said he would give me clearance to go back to work. Messed up, I will agree. You have to understand the fact that my supervisors have a knee jerk reaction to things like this.

On to the other item-chicken pox takes 12 to 14 days to incubate. Where were we slightly over two weeks ago? Further Confusion! Yup, Con Crud on a grand scale. I just hope none of our friends are affected by this.

Anyway, I will update this blog after my tigress is checked out by a doctor.

Tuesday's Musings

Well, I thought I would share my thoughts about the last few days. Last Friday, I was putting my truck away for the day when I noticed something in my work boot. It had gotten into a position to irritate my foot so I removed my shoe to find out what it was. Out fell a quarter and a penny! Doh!

Weird stuff part two-

I didn't watch the Superbowl, mainly because I was busy disinfecting a computer. Yeah, not a way to spend Sunday but I was begged, literally, to fix their computer for them. What a mess it was, too.

I had never ran up against a virus that prevented any process except a browser from running! To make matters worse, it managed to block the computer from running in SAFE mode on more than a few occasions, forcing a reboot to try for SAFE mode again. Nine and a half hours of frustration. You can guess where they were surfing ...

On to my favorite intrusion alarm duo. They are Ademco Vista 128B alarms and I have learned they are not user friendly. I spent about 3 hours just putting a few users into the systems. Since I'm not a certified installer, I don't have access to the Vista software that would make programming much simpler. Argh!

So, that leads up to now. My tigress is sitting here, pondering her case of chicken pox. Yup. Now, I really can't remember if I had them as a child so I might be infected. Won't know for a few days until they have had time to incubate in my system. I'm hoping I don't have them. Oh Well ...

Just A Quick Post

Taken with the new Canon SX20-IS camera:

You can tell my Tigress was running down by this panel.
